Privacy Policy

Kidooki ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of our users and their children. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive only the information those providers share based on your settings.

Child Profile Information

To personalize stories, we collect the following information about your child, as provided by you (the parent or guardian):

  • First name (or nickname)
  • Age or date of birth
  • Interests and preferences (e.g., favorite animals, themes)

We do not collect photos, precise location, contact information, or any other personal data directly from children.

Usage Data

We automatically collect analytics data about how you interact with the Service, including pages viewed, features used, story reading activity, and session duration. This data is collected through Mixpanel and is associated with your account.

Device Information

We may collect device type, operating system, app version, and unique device identifiers to improve our Service and troubleshoot issues.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Generate personalized bedtime stories tailored to your child's name, age, and interests
  • Create illustrations and audio narration for each story
  • Send daily push notifications when new stories are ready
  • Manage your account and subscription
  • Improve and optimize our Service
  • Provide customer support
  • Send transactional emails (e.g., account confirmation, subscription receipts)

3. AI-Generated Content

Kidooki uses artificial intelligence services to generate story text (Anthropic Claude), illustrations (Google Gemini), and audio narration (ElevenLabs). Your child's profile information (name, age, interests) is sent to these services solely to generate personalized content. We do not share any other personal data with these providers beyond what is necessary for story creation. Sharing a story with other people is a separate choice you make: see Sharing a story.

When a story is read in your voice, the narration is made by AI: ElevenLabs makes an AI copy of your voice from your recordings, and that copy reads the story.

All AI-generated content passes through our content moderation system before being delivered to ensure it is age-appropriate and safe.

Your first story preview, before you sign up

When you set up Kidooki, we show you a preview of your child's first story before you create an account. To write it, the app sends your child's first name, age range, interests, and the values you chose to Anthropic (Claude). Our server passes these details to Anthropic to write the preview and does not save them.

Anthropic handles this information as our service provider. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic may not use it to train its AI models. Anthropic deletes it within 30 days. It may keep it longer only where the law requires, or to enforce its usage policy: if its safety systems flag a request as breaking that policy, it may keep it for up to 2 years. If you'd rather not share your child's name at this step, you can use a nickname and change it in Settings after you sign up.

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Kidooki is designed for use by parents and guardians. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):

  • No direct collection from children. All child information is provided by the parent or guardian who creates and manages the account.
  • Parental control. Parents have full control over their children's profiles and can view, edit, or delete any child data at any time.
  • Limited data. We only collect the minimum information needed to personalize stories (name, age, interests).
  • No behavioral advertising. We do not serve targeted advertising to children or use children's data for advertising purposes.
  • No social features for children. Children cannot interact with other users, share content, or communicate through the app. Only a parent can share a story, from their own account.

Sharing a story

You can choose to share a story from the app. Nothing is shared unless you do. The first time you share a story in your voice, we ask you to confirm and keep a record of when you did and the wording you agreed to.

Sharing a story creates two things:

  • A short video. It holds a few of the story's pictures and about 14 seconds of the story in your voice. It is made on your phone and we do not store it. You send it through the apps you choose, and their privacy policies apply to it there.
  • A link to the whole story. It opens a web page at kidooki.com. No account or app is needed to open it.

Anyone who has the video or link can listen to it and pass it on, even to people you don't know. Anyone with the link can see your child's first name (or the nickname you gave us) and the story's title, text and pictures, and hear the whole story in your voice. The text may reflect your child's interests. Chat apps may show a preview of the link with your child's first name, the story's title and one of its pictures.

A link has no end date. It stays on until you turn it off in Settings, under Your voice. Deleting your voice, the story, your child's profile or your account also turns it off. Once a link is off, its page, narration and pictures stop loading. Someone listening at that moment may still hear what their browser has already downloaded. We can't remove videos already sent or posted, or previews already in chats. To remove a post, delete it in the app you posted it to.

The story page uses no cookies, advertising or analytics trackers, and asks search engines not to list it. For each link we count how many times it was opened, played and finished, and whether the offer on the page was tapped. We don't record who did. To stop abuse, we keep a scrambled form of each visitor's IP address for up to two days, and our web host, Vercel, processes these addresses to serve the page.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS infrastructure). We implement industry-standard security measures, including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
  • Row-level security policies on all database tables
  • Secure authentication with hashed credentials
  • Regular security audits and monitoring

Story text is stored in Supabase. Illustrations and audio narration are stored in a private Cloudflare R2 bucket. They are accessible only to the account that created them, unless you share a story: anyone with its link can then open that story while the link is on.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Supabase — Database, authentication, and file storage
  • Cloudflare (R2) — Storage for story pictures and narration
  • Vercel — Website and shared story page hosting
  • Anthropic (Claude) — Story text generation
  • Google (Gemini) — Illustration generation
  • ElevenLabs — Audio narration
  • RevenueCat — Subscription management
  • Mixpanel — Analytics
  • Sentry — Error tracking and crash reporting
  • Expo / EAS — App distribution and push notifications

Each of these services has their own privacy policy governing how they process data. We encourage you to review their policies.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data and generated stories for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete all associated personal data, child profiles, and generated content within 30 days. Anonymized analytics data may be retained for longer to improve our Service.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you and your children
  • Correct any inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

9. Cookies and Tracking

Our website uses essential cookies for functionality and analytics cookies (Mixpanel) to understand how visitors use our site. We do not use advertising cookies. You can disable analytics cookies through your browser settings. Shared story pages use no cookies or trackers.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we will also notify you via email or in-app notification.
