Kidooki ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of our users and their children. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive only the information those providers share based on your settings.

Child Profile Information

To personalize stories, we collect the following information about your child, as provided by you (the parent or guardian):

  • First name (or nickname)
  • Age or date of birth
  • Interests and preferences (e.g., favorite animals, themes)

We do not collect photos, precise location, contact information, or any other personal data directly from children.

Usage Data

We automatically collect analytics data about how you interact with the Service, including pages viewed, features used, story reading activity, and session duration. This data is collected through Mixpanel and is associated with your account.

Device Information

We may collect device type, operating system, app version, and unique device identifiers to improve our Service and troubleshoot issues.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Generate personalized bedtime stories tailored to your child's name, age, and interests
  • Create illustrations and audio narration for each story
  • Send daily push notifications when new stories are ready
  • Manage your account and subscription
  • Improve and optimize our Service
  • Provide customer support
  • Send transactional emails (e.g., account confirmation, subscription receipts)

3. AI-Generated Content

Kidooki uses artificial intelligence services to generate story text (Anthropic Claude), illustrations (Google Gemini), and audio narration (ElevenLabs). Your child's profile information (name, age, interests) is sent to these services solely to generate personalized content. We do not share any other personal data with these providers beyond what is necessary for story creation.

All AI-generated content passes through our content moderation system before being delivered to ensure it is age-appropriate and safe.

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Kidooki is designed for use by parents and guardians. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):

  • No direct collection from children. All child information is provided by the parent or guardian who creates and manages the account.
  • Parental control. Parents have full control over their children's profiles and can view, edit, or delete any child data at any time.
  • Limited data. We only collect the minimum information needed to personalize stories (name, age, interests).
  • No behavioral advertising. We do not serve targeted advertising to children or use children's data for advertising purposes.
  • No social features. Children cannot interact with other users, share content publicly, or communicate through the app.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS infrastructure). We implement industry-standard security measures, including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
  • Row-level security policies on all database tables
  • Secure authentication with hashed credentials
  • Regular security audits and monitoring

Generated stories, illustrations, and audio files are stored in Supabase Storage and are accessible only to the account that created them.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Supabase — Database, authentication, and file storage
  • Anthropic (Claude) — Story text generation
  • Google (Gemini) — Illustration generation
  • ElevenLabs — Audio narration
  • RevenueCat — Subscription management
  • Mixpanel — Analytics
  • Sentry — Error tracking and crash reporting
  • Expo / EAS — App distribution and push notifications

Each of these services has their own privacy policy governing how they process data. We encourage you to review their policies.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data and generated stories for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete all associated personal data, child profiles, and generated content within 30 days. Anonymized analytics data may be retained for longer to improve our Service.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you and your children
  • Correct any inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

9. Cookies and Tracking

Our website uses essential cookies for functionality and analytics cookies (Mixpanel) to understand how visitors use our site. We do not use advertising cookies. You can disable analytics cookies through your browser settings.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we will also notify you via email or in-app notification.
